Log Horizon - Anime

As a fan of Sword Art Online I went into watching this anime expecting to get pretty much a rehashed version of the series, with maybe a plot twist or two. To my delight I found a whole new world filled with players not too interested in getting back to ‘the real’ world and more interested in making a home for themselves and continuing to live on in the world they find themselves stuck in, a vast difference to that of SAO to say the least. One of the key factors in this could probably be because in this anime a character’s death isn’t final as in SAO, thus giving our characters a sort of care-free attitude to their situation as they carry on trying to deal with their new situation and way of life.

The key points that draw one in are however that our main character struggles to just sit back and let things go as he decides to ‘change the world’ and we follow him and learn that this new world isn’t without its drawbacks and sacrifices as it proves to be changing.

The animation is beautiful and the story is intriguing as it draws you in, and from the bad guys perspective no less and I love it!
Log Horizon takes you on a journey through politics and war and makes you enjoy being the bad guy as you watch how things unravel with the right amount of planning and strategy. It’s brilliantly executed and well written and the character development is interesting to observe as each character faces the changing world as well as what it really means to die.

What I also really love is how the fighting is constructed. Never having been much of a gamer, I feel like I get to peek inside how things run in real-time from normal online gaming and for me that is pretty exciting stuff!

So despite going in with false expectations, Log horizon is definitely an anime I think SAO fans will enjoy as well as generally any anime fans for that matter. It has the visuals and storyline, what more could an otaku ask for?
